Saalfeld Griggs is a respected business law firm with clients in Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. Founded in Salem in 1932, the firm is large enough to handle complex litigation and business transactions, yet small enough to develop close working relationships with its clients. The goal of the firm is to learn about each client’s business, understand their needs and goals, and efficiently develop a practical and cost-effective legal strategy. The 29 lawyers at Saalfeld Griggs are organized into specialized practice area teams. Lawyers in each team have developed a thorough understanding of the legal issues that arise in their particular practice area. This thorough understanding allows the lawyers to provide firm clients with highly effective and innovative legal strategies and solutions. When a client’s legal issues are complex enough to cross practice areas, the teams work together to share their expertise. The common thread among all of the firm’s clients is the need for quality, comprehensive legal services provided in a dependable and professional environment. The firm’s practice areas include: Business Law & Taxation, Estate Planning & Administration, Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation, Employment Law, Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy, Litigation, and Real Estate & Land Use. Firm lawyers also have extensive experience in several industries that are important to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. The firm’s Industry Groups include Agri-Business, Construction, Dental Services, Financial Services, Health Law, and Wineries/Breweries.

Saalfeld Griggs Building

Roy Harland founded the firm in 1932. His guiding principles were that all clients deserve the highest quality service, and that a lawyer’s job is to find innovative yet practical solutions to the client’s needs. Although the firm Roy started was a general practice, over the past 80 years the firm has developed into a highly-specialized business law and litigation firm. To this day, the firm’s lawyers remain committed to Roy’s principles of client service.

Another lesson learned from Roy was the importance of giving back to the community. All of the firm’s lawyers are actively involved in community service across Salem, the Willamette Valley and the Pacific Northwest. Many of the lawyers are leaders in prominent charitable, business, and governmental organizations. The firm’s outstanding community involvement was recognized in 1999 when the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce named the firm the 1999 Business of the Year.

As clients’ needs have expanded, so have the firm’s areas of practice and depth of expertise. The firm now represents clients throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the United States. Rather than maintain a general understanding of many areas of the law, each lawyer in the firm focuses their practice on a particular aspect of business law and litigation. As a team, this practice group approach gives our clients the benefit of working with lawyers who are highly trained and experienced in handling difficult and complex legal issues. Although the firm has grown to meet clients’ needs, the lawyers have not forgotten that client service and the highest quality innovative legal advice are the cornerstones upon which the firm was built.

Clients of the firm are confident in the legal ability and experience of the lawyers at Saalfeld Griggs. The firm honors that confidence by delivering high-quality legal services tailored to each client’s needs.
