Saalfeld Griggs is a respected business law firm with clients in Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. Founded in Salem in 1932, the firm is large enough to handle complex litigation and business transactions, yet small enough to develop close working relationships with its clients. The goal of the firm is to learn about each client’s business, understand their needs and goals, and efficiently develop a practical and cost-effective legal strategy. The lawyers at Saalfeld Griggs are organized into specialized practice groups. Lawyers in each group have developed a thorough understanding of the legal issues that arise in their particular practice group. This thorough understanding allows the lawyers to provide firm clients with highly effective and innovative legal strategies and solutions. When a client’s legal issues are complex enough to cross-practice groups, the teams work together to share their expertise. The common thread among all of the firm’s clients is the need for quality, comprehensive legal services provided in a dependable and professional environment. The firm’s practice groups include Business Law & Taxation Law, Condemnation & Unconstitutional Takings, Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy, Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation, Employment Law & Litigation, Estate Planning & Probate, Litigation, and Real Estate & Land Use. Firm lawyers also have extensive experience in several industries that are important to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. The firm’s Industry Groups include Agri-Business, Construction Law & Construction Litigation, Dental Services, Financial Services, Health Law, Nonprofit Organizations and Wine, Beer, & Cider.
Roy Harland founded the firm in 1932, and was joined by Bob Saalfeld and Jim Griggs in the mid-1970’s. Roy’s guiding principles were that all clients deserve the highest quality service, and that a lawyer’s job is to find innovative yet practical solutions to the client’s needs. Although the firm Roy started was a general practice, in the ensuing years it has developed into a highly-specialized business law and litigation firm. To this day, the firm’s lawyers remain committed to Roy’s principles of client service. Another guiding principle that Roy lived by was the importance of giving back to the community. All of the firm’s lawyers are actively involved in community service throughout Salem, the Willamette Valley and the Pacific Northwest. Many of the lawyers are leaders in prominent charitable, business, and governmental organizations.
