James M. MacDonald

Jim MacDonald is an associate attorney in Saalfeld Griggs’ litigation group. His areas of focus include construction and real property disputes, contract claims, and eminent domain. Before beginning a second career in law, Jim was a general contractor in Southern Idaho for nearly two decades. After moving to Oregon, he owned and operated two student housing properties in Corvallis near the OSU campus. His business and personal experience prior to practicing law help Jim better understand clients’ perspectives on issues arising in disputes.

Off the Job

Jim grew up in Idaho. He and his brother, Steve, spent their summers backpacking in the Sawtooth Mountains. Jim started a construction business in the early 90’s. He began doing small projects, and one customer at a time, grew his business into a custom home and remodeling company. In 2010, Jim moved to Oregon with his wife, Wendy. They raised their three boys in Corvallis and spent their summers exploring Oregon. Now, Jim and Wendy enjoy spending their time working on home remodeling projects; hiking and trail running with their three dogs, Bernie, Josie, and Sarra Belle; and cheering on the Portland Trailblazers.
