Legal Secretary

Saalfeld Griggs is looking to hire a full-time legal secretary to join our firm. On our team, you will be given opportunities for client contact and responsibility over cases upon starting. Together with a support network of other staff and attorneys available to help you succeed and feel confident, you will begin developing and tracking case information to assist attorneys in their work. Our ideal candidate is organized, motivated, and can communicate well with others on the team and with our clients.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Perform secretarial and administrative duties for attorney, including: typing letters, memos and reports, answering phones, scheduling appointments and filing
  • Prepare necessary forms, paperwork, and rooms for client meetings
  • Performs a variety of tasks on daily basis and works for multiple attorneys and/or legal assistants
  • Keep cases organized and monitor calendars and deadlines
  • Input information in our document management databases
  • Review and confirm case status with your attorney
  • Develop cases by maintaining contact with clients and others involved in the matter
  • Gather and review information from clients
  • Track status and generate necessary reports
  • Prepare and draft case information for attorney review
  • Provide back-up coverage for reception desk as needed
  • Other duties include: scanning, copying, transcribing, data entry, and a majority of non-billable tasks for the practice group.
  • Have excellent typing, grammar, spelling, and organizational skills
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and clients
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other team members
  • Have reliable and predictable attendance and performance of the essential job functions

 

Required skills and experience:

  • No prior legal experience necessary
  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • At least 1 year of office experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe
  • Knowledge of document management and timekeeping programs preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Reliable and predictable attendance and performance of the essential job functions

Associates work closely with the partners in their practice group and with other attorneys and staff in the firm. We assign each lawyer to a partner-mentor to help them grow into the practice and broaden their perspective on the practice of law and marketing of legal services.
