Firm History
Roy Harland founded this firm, that is now known as Saalfeld Griggs, in 1932. His guiding principles were that all clients deserve the highest quality service, and that a lawyer’s job is to find innovative yet practical solutions to the client’s needs. Although the firm Roy started was a general practice, over the last 80 years, the firm has developed into a highly-specialized business law firm. To this day, the firm’s lawyers remain committed to Roy’s principles of client service.
Another lesson learned from Roy was the need to give back to the community. All of the firm’s lawyers are actively involved in the Salem community. Many of the lawyers are leaders in prominent local charitable, business, and governmental organizations. The firm’s outstanding community involvement was recognized in 1999 when the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce named the firm the 1999 Business of the Year.
As clients’ needs have expanded, so have the firm’s areas of practice and depth of expertise. The firm now represents clients throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the United States. The firm is composed of more than 20 lawyers and a support staff of over 20 legal secretaries, paralegals, and other administrative personnel. Rather than maintain a general understanding of many areas of the law, each lawyer in the firm focuses their practice on a particular aspect of business law. As a team, this practice group approach gives our clients the benefit of working with lawyers who are highly trained and experienced in handling difficult and complex legal issues. Although the firm has grown to meet clients’ needs, the lawyers have not forgotten that client service and the highest quality innovative legal advice are the cornerstones upon which the firm was built.
The firm’s lawyers are innovative in their approach to solving legal problems. Althougth there may be many ways to address any particular legal matter, the lawyers at Saalfeld Griggs strive to find the solutions that can be practically implemented with the greatest benefit to the client. They see their role as counselors to help business clients achieve their goals in the most cost effective and practical way possible.
Clients of the firm are confident in the legal ability and experience of the lawyers at Saalfeld Griggs. The firm honors that confidence by delivering high-quality legal services tailored to each client’s needs. At Saalfeld Griggs, the most important person is the client.
