Christine Moehl specializes in legal matters related to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), including retirement planning and employee benefits.

Retirement Planning:

Ms. Moehl counsels employers in the formation and maintenance of both qualified and non-qualified retirement plans. She assists clients with the following services:

Qualified Retirement Planning:

  • Advise employers and employees on plan features and options related to profit sharing plans, money purchase pension plans, 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, stock bonus plans, employee stock ownership plans, and defined benefit plans.

  • Conduct analysis of employee data and demographics to identify the most appropriate and cost-efficient plan.

  • Design and implement plans to comply with complex IRS and Department of Labor (DOL) requirements, as well as to conform to individual employment settings.

  • Perform applicable nondiscrimination analyses associated with particular plans, including integrated plan allocations, average deferral percentage and actual contribution percentage testing, cross-testing, age-weighting, and top-heavy plan contribution calculations.

  • Maintain pension plans to ensure compliance with shifting legislative and regulatory requirements and employment settings.

Non-Qualified Retirement Planning:
  • Counsel clients on planning for efficient means of business succession.
  • Create salary continuation plans and stock appreciation rights agreements.
  • Consult with employers on design of executive compensation packages.

Health Benefits Planning

Ms. Moehl’s advice and services extend to employer-sponsored health benefit plans including cafeteria plans, flexible spending plans, dependent care assistance plans, and insured medical reimbursement plans. Her services include:

  • Design and implementation of plans to conform to employer preferences.

  • Educate employees on plan health benefits.

  • Ensure plans comply with IRS and DOL requirements.

Ms. Moehl is a member of the Oregon State Bar and Western Pension Benefits Conference.

Education

Ms. Moehl received her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2004 where she served as Associate Editor of Environmental Law Review.
